Healing your body image starts here.

Have you ever looked at a photo of yourself and grimaced? Or perhaps, you were excited to go out with friends, only to feel insecure about the outfit you chose and ended up focusing on your body all night? No one is immune to body image insecurity and as a photographer, I saw folks of all sizes dislike the way they looked and I knew something had to be done.

I created Body Image Bootcamp in 2016 after noticing that every client of mine was concerned about the way they looked and apologized for their bodies at every moment. I realized we needed more mental work than just an empowering photo shoot, so I set out to learn everything I could about body image, the psychology behind it, and what we currently do to foster our negative behaviors. I also started to look at resources available to the average human who has a less than desirable feeling towards their body , but unless you suffer from a full fledged eating disorder, there were no mental health support groups or classes specifically targeted to body image....so I created one.

It wasn’t long, however, before I realized that myself and my fellow caretakers and givers needed it just as much as those clients!! Empowering others is hard work, but when we head home at the end of the day and hate on ourselves, it can also pile on feelings of imposter syndrome and thoughts of “how can I help others if I can’t even help myself???”

Well, Body Image Bootcamp was created
just. for. that.

Who is it for?

The intent of Body Image Bootcamp is intended for folks who are ready to be done letting body image rule their lives. This special week is designed to help you explore YOUR body image, educate YOU on why you believe the bullshit you do, and empower YOU to take control of your thought processes, thus enabling you to move forward and work towards more important things!
(you know, like running a successful business, making change in the world, and role modeling positive behavior for your clients….)
At the conclusion of the week, you will have a ton of knowledge to take back and put into practice - both for yourself and for your community.

Plus, you get unlimited margs, guac, and poolside sitting while it happens.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE

By doing this course as a group you will be surrounded by others who are here to help you as they help themselves and everyone is in this together. I have been witness to the power of people healing together in person & I want you to embrace the magic.

We will be staying at The Topia Boutique Retreat Center, located 1 hour from the Los Cabos airport

WELCOME HOME

To make sure everyone arrives on time for the shuttle, we will be offering the opportunity to stay an extra night with us in Los Cabos on May 28th. This is a great opportunity to arrive with a little bit of breathing room, get to know everyone, & check out the sites of Los Cabos. Should you opt to join us, we will provide complimentary accommodation for that night, but you will be responsible for your food & anything you wish to purchase.

The Itinerary

Day 1: ARRIVAL

While this is the first “official” day of the retreat, we do recommend folks come in the day before (the 28th) where we will have arranged for a complimentary stay in the heart of Los Cabos. If you decided to fly in on the 29th, you just need to make sure your flight arrives no later than 12pm. We will have transportation pre-arranged from Los Cabos to our home on the 29th. Once we arrive, we will spend the afternoon just getting settled, sharing a delicious dinner, spending time chatting and in the evening, I will teach you about Clifton Strengths so we can get to know each other a little better!

From the 30-1, I will walk you through a variety of exercises/information split up over 3 days. We will utilize workbooks, writing, somatic exercises and a handful of other therapeutic techniques that you will be able to use as you continue to work on your body + self relationship. We will cap off the workshop portion with our epic graduation tradition.

In the afternoons, you will have free time to do photoshoots, relax, swim, or explore the town! You will also have your special 1 on 1 photoshoot with Teri to commemorate the experience!

[Though the workshop is focused on you and your body image, some folks want to use this information to create/execute their own workshops. Therefore, you will have your BIBC facilitators presentation sent to you once you arrive home and have access to course templates to help you put what you’ve learned into action.]

Day 2-4: WORK HARD, PLAY HARD

DAY 5: BEACH DAY + PHOTOSHOOTS

The 4th full day of the retreat will be split into 2 portions. The first half of the day will be enjoying a relaxing morning of massages and after lunch, we will adventure out of the house to a local beach for us to enjoy sun tanning, sand, and sea! After our beach time, you will be able to join Beth for a tour of town or head back to the house for some down time! You can also choose to spend the entire day at the house if that is what you feel called to do! Since many of the folks that attend tend to be photographers, this is also a great time to take advantage of the beautiful scenery and capture some glorious images! This last full day is designed to give you the ultimate self care day, whether that is play, create or rest!

[Weather dependent]

As they say, all good things must come to an end. You will need to pack up all of your lovely things + all of your newfound knowledge. Tearful goodbyes are not uncommon and it is reminiscent of saying goodbye to your camp buddies. To make your exit as painless as possible, we will have pre-arranged transportation back to the airport.

DAY 6: TIME TO SAY GOOD-BYE

Fine print: While this is the schedule we intend to keep, sometimes we have to be adaptable to changing circumstances due to the place we are staying, holidays, unforeseen issues, etc. This is all part of travelling!

Because the content of Body Image Bootcamp is so heavy, we have scheduled a lot of downtime and taking breaks. We find that much of the work happens when you have time to percolate or discuss with your fellow members after the learning has happened. We will also have our late afternoons/evenings free to explore, go to the beach or just relax and enjoy the sunset.
There will be no shortage of tacos and good times, but please note this is not a party retreat.

At BIBC we want to encourage the experience of disconnecting from our phones and getting to a state of clarity. While you will be able to have your phone accessible during the retreat, we want to limit the amount of doom-scrolling & distraction as much as possible. Entering a state of Unplugia(essentially being unplugged) you will be able to experience, feel & connect more.

THE FINE PRINT:
Now, y’all know I am big on expectations, so I will let you know that we take an intersectional feminist approach and this might not appeal to everyone. There are a lot of topics we discuss in this course that may make you feel incredibly uncomfortable, incredibly defensive, and possibly hurt, angry, confused or upset. This is not uncommon when we are working to break down power structures and systems of oppression that have been designed to keep us small, insignificant and quiet. That being said, this is NOT a workshop for the faint of heart or for the “fragile ego”. You will have to confront your privilege (we all have it), your fatphobia (we all have it), and your belief systems about diet culture(we all have them). IF you are NOT ready for this work, that is absolutely okay, I want you to come prepared with an open mind, open heart, and willingness to learn and grow! By joining Body Image Bootcamp, you understand that it is no substitution for professional therapy.
